his Victorian building, which is now the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, has stood as a landmark of Manitowoc's proud heritage for many years. John Schuette (9/25/1837 - 12/20/1919) and his wife Rose began the building process in 1898 and was completed in 1901. John was a prominent member of the community in many regards. He was responsible for founding both the Manitowoc Savings Bank (S. 8th and Jay streets) and the Manitowoc Electric Light Company (now Manitowoc Public Utilities). John served as an alderman, was elected to the office of mayor of Manitowoc for five terms, and during 1875 and 1876 was a member of the state senate.
